Two DLA Maritime Pearl Harbor Sailors Reenlist

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — LS1 Roberto Lucero and LS2 Jamey Smith of DLA Maritime Pearl Harbor Maritime re-enlisted at the top of Lanikai Pillbox atop Ka'Iwa Ridge this December. The weather was perfect for the morning hike to the Pillbox, which was attended by all DLA Maritime Military Personnel. CDR Thomas Marszalek, DLA Maritime Director, officiated the re-enlistment.

Oklahoma City’s Queen recognized at annual DLA award ceremony

FORT BELVOIR, Virginia — Bikki Queen, secretary for the Preservation, Packaging, Packing, and Marking Branch at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Oklahoma City, Okla., was chosen the receive one of the top Ten Outstanding DLA Personnel of the Year awards for 2015.

The DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Transportation Management team has been namedthe DLA Distribution Team of the Quarter for fourth quarter fiscal year 2015.

Pearl HarborTransportation team wins Distribution Team of the Quarter

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii — The DLA Distribution Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Transportation Management team has been named the DLA Distribution Team of the Quarter for fourth quarter fiscal year 2015 for its innovative methods in moving items to the customer in a more efficient and effective manner.

The USS Forrest Sherman, a former Navy destroyer, sits in a trench in New Orleans in October. The ship is the first scrapped through a Defense Logistics Agency contract since the late 1990s.

DLA Disposition Services scraps decommissioned ship

New Orleans, Louisiana — A chapter in Navy and DLA Disposition Services history is ending in a trench dug off New Orleans’ Industrial Canal, less than three miles from the French Quarter.

A former Army 5-ton tractor truck acquired by the Torrance County, New Mexico Sheriff’s Department through the DLA Law Enforcement Support Office waits for its next mission Dec. 26. Repurposed with a snowplow, the rig was used to reach isolated rural residents of the county in the wake of heavy snow from Winter Storm Goliath.

Stranded travelers, snowbound residents benefit from ex-military gear

Albuquerque, New Mexico — DLA recently helped local communities deal with emergency snowfall by providing excess military equipment donated by DoD through the Law Enforcement Support Office program.

DLA Distribution Current Operations chief retires after 38 years

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pennsylvania — DLA’s chief of current operations retired in December following a 38-year career with the Federal government in which he began as a warehouse worker.

Procurement assistance centers help small-business owners, government buyers

Fort Belvoir, Virginia — The Procurement Technical Assistance Program, created in 1985 to increase the number of small businesses capable of participating in government contracts, is administered by the Defense Logistics Agency’s Office of Small Business Programs, with centers in Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and all 50 states.
