TEXARKANA, Texas — Shirley Merrell, a supply system analyst with DLA Distribution Red River, Texas, recently retired with nearly 51 years of federal service.

Former commander returns, gives Air Force customer perspective at SLC

Richmond, Virginia — Defense Logistics Agency Aviation leadership and strategic partners came together for the activities annual Senior Leadership Conference Feb. 7-9 on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Former DLA Aviation Commander Air Force Brig. Gen. Mark Johnson who is the current commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Complex at Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma, returned to Richmond to speak with senior leaders from an Air Force customer perspective.

Richmond, Virginia — Stephen Robinson is a new security specialist for Defense Logistics Agency Intelligence located at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. When he’s not securing operations, information and industrial programs for DLA Aviation, he’s spending time with his family on his boat or hunting.

DLA Distribution’s first material processing center officially opens in Salalah, Oman

SALALAH, Oman — DLA Distribution Salalah, Oman held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new material processing center on Feb. 9. DLA Energy’s commanding general, Air Force Brig. Gen. Martin A. Chapin officiated the ceremony.

Defense Logistics Agency three star visits MCLB Barstow

BARSTOW, California — United States Air Force Lt. Gen. Andrew E. Busch, who heads the organization supplying every branch of America’s military, visited Defense Logistics Agency facilities aboard Marine Corps Logistics Base Barstow, Calif., Jan. 26.

The Department of Homeland Security recently updated its lists of states that are compliant, noncompliant, or under extensions for making the ID they issue conform to the Real ID Act.

Deadline for ‘Real ID’-compliant driver’s license extended to June for some states

If you have family members whose only ID is issued by one of an expanded list of non-compliant states or territories, they will not be able to use that ID for unescorted access to Department of Defense or other federal facilities after June 6, following an extension of the deadline by the Department of Homeland Security.

Aviation senior leaders meet to dial up performance

Richmond, Va. — Senior leaders from across Defense Logistics Agency Aviation’s 18 geographical locations within the U.S. traveled to Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia, Feb 7-9 to meet with teammates and other DLA, military services and industry leaders to review last year’s performance and discuss how to improve support this year.

DLA San Joaquin hosts Expeditionary Academy

TRACY, California — Members of the DLA Distribution Expeditionary Team assigned to DLA Distribution San Joaquin, in concert with partners from DLA Distribution Expeditionary Logistics and DLA Training, hosted an Expeditionary Academy Jan. 17 through 27 for the DLA Distribution Operations Team San Joaquin Navy Reserve unit. The two-week event consisted of classroom and hands-on training, with a focus on DLA Distribution and mobilization training.

Port Hueneme’s team supports annual Antarctic resupply mission

PORT HUENEME, California — Each year, the Preservation, Packaging, Packing and Marking team at Defense Logistics Agency Distribution San Diego, Calif., at Port Hueneme supports Operation Deep Freeze, the National Science Foundation’s Antarctic research mission at McMurdo Station, Antarctica, the logistics hub for NSF’s research mission.

The Defense Logistics Agency selects Air Force Master Sgt. Gabriela Camarillo as its Senior Non-Commissioned Officer of the Quarter for the 1st quarter of 2017 for her professional and personal contributions to the agency. She oversaw dollar threshold requirements by validating purchases worth $1.5 million, while saving $250,000 in excess purchases from when she started at the DLA Aviation, Richmond, Virginia, in June 2016. She also helped raise more than $100,000 for local charities during the Combined Federal Campaign this year by coordinating four fundraisers.

Military leader professional development: lunch and learn

Richmond, Virginia — A military leader professional development “brown bag lunch’ event was held Jan. 27 on Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. Personnel from Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center spoke to the group about their Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program and partnership with DLA Aviation.

A DLA Distribution Albany, Georgia forklift is buried under the wreckage of a rail head ramp. The entire base received major damage from the category five hurricane that touched down on Jan. 22.
