What is it?
The Meal, Cold Weather (MCW) is an individual operational ration that is intended for feeding during extreme cold weather operations. The ration will not freeze and supplies extra drink mixes for countering dehydration during cold weather activities. It can be issued at three per day for a complete cold weather ration. The MCW is packaged in a white camouflage pouch. The combined product assembly consists of twelve ration/meals packets per shipping container. What's in it?
The twelve menus contain dehydrated entree items as well as other accessory items. Each menu provides approximately 1540 kilocalories (15% protein, 35% fat, and 50% carbohydrate). The MCW requires three menu bags per person per day and provides for 4500 kilocalories that is necessary to replenish loss of energy from exertion in extreme cold.
How do I eat it?
The individual prepares the food. An average of 34 ounces of water is required to hydrate all components in the average individual menu bag.
How long will it last?
The shelf life is 3 years at 80 degrees Fahrenheit.
