Norfolk’s Little Creek detachment supports humanitarian mission in Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste

In a humanitarian aid mission to the island nation of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in maritime Southeast Asia, Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5's Construction Civic Action Detail built two bridges to enable safe river crossings that isolate villages in Leimea. Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Norfolk, Va., and its Little Creek, Va., detachment assisted the Seabees in the short-notice and cost-effective transportation of wire rope cable to the location.

Distribution Standard System goes live at DLA Distribution detachment sites

In 2010, the storage missions at the Naval Construction Battalions in Port Hueneme, Calif., and Gulfport, Miss., transferred to Defense Logistics Agency Distribution as part of the Navy Warehouse Transfer initiative. These sites originally reported to Naval Supply Systems Command and supported the Navy Seabee battalions at these locations. Port Hueneme is now under the direction of DLA Distribution San Diego, while Gulfport falls under DLA Distribution Jacksonville.

DLA Distribution Yokosuka prepares to manage Japan’s Transportation Protective Service program

As part of an effort to increase support to the warfighter, Defense Logistics Agency Distribution Yokosuka, Japan, is preparing to manage Japan’s Transportation Protective Service program. This effort gives DLA responsibility for freight within mainland Japan that requires TPS, including classified, sensitive, and hazardous material.

3D printing could help DLA cut costs, improve parts support

The Defense Logistics Agency is evaluating whether 3D printing, a process commercial manufacturers use to produce everything from prosthetics to airplane parts, could lower the cost and reduce lead times for hard-to-source, obsolete and back-ordered parts.

Army Reserve fuelers support DLA Energy during nationwide exercise

Army Reserve Soldiers from 18 states participated in the Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise June 7-20 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. About 1,100 Soldiers came from as far away as Michigan and Puerto Rico and as near as North Carolina to haul fuel for the Defense Logistics Agency.
